Work Experience Programme: Years 10 & 12

At Kirkbie Kendal School, we are dedicated to ensuring every student receives the guidance and support needed to make informed decisions about their post-16 future. A key component of this support is our Work Experience Programme for Year 10 and 12 students.

Why Work Experience Matters

Work experience provides students with a vital competitive edge. It allows them to gain practical insight into potential career paths while developing the essential interpersonal skills that modern employers look for, including:

• Commercial Awareness: Understanding how a business operates.
• Communication: Building confidence in professional environments.
• Teamwork: Learning to collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Year 10 Programme: April 2027

We are pleased to introduce our Year 10 Work Experience week, taking place from Monday 26th April to Friday 30th April 2027.

We actively encourage students to take ownership of this process by organising their own placements. This is an excellent opportunity for students to research industries that interest them and demonstrate initiative. As part of this process, students will be required to write a formal letter of application and provide a CV to their prospective employer.

Support and Resources:

• Assemblies: An introductory assembly will be held during the autumn term.
• Guidance: We provide dedicated support and resources to help students craft their applications and CVs.
• Communication: A letter of introduction and consent will be sent to parents at the start of the scheme.
• Management: All paperwork, placement details, and consent forms must be completed via the Unifrog Placements tool.

Key Information for Parents

To ensure the programme runs smoothly and safely, please note the following:

• Age Restrictions: Due to legal restrictions, some companies are unable to accept applicants under the age of 16.
• Financials: Please note that there is no financial support available for travel or meal costs.
• Unpaid Status: In accordance with UK law, students are not permitted to be paid for work experience placements.
• Safety & Insurance: All placements must be covered by the employer’s liability insurance, and formal Risk Assessments will be in place for every student.
