Vocational Studies

Unit Outline:

This is a Level 1 course equivalent to GCSE grades 1 – 3. It is a practical course assessed by coursework. Please note that this course will take up 2 of the 4 timetable blocks. 

Units Studied:

10 units are covered across the two years and they are chosen from a wide variety of different sectors. Units will be chosen from the list below to best suit the needs of the cohort.

  • Exploring Local Visitor Attractions
  • Caring for and Feeding Animals 
  • Moving and Accommodating Animals 
  • Planning and Navigating Routes
  • Assisting in a Sporting Activity
  • Running an Event
  • Supporting Activities in the Local Community
  • Developing Estate Maintenance Skills
  • Being Organised (Mandatory)
  • Developing a Personal Progression Plan (Mandatory)
  • Working with Others (Mandatory)
  • Researching a Topic (Mandatory)

Assessment:

All units are internally assessed and are in the form of a coursework portfolio.

Further Information:

The Vocational Studies course aims to give students an understanding of the wide range of opportunities for employment across a wide range of sectors. It takes up two of the four subject choices and takes one day a week.

Most of the teaching takes place out of school. Days on the course are often hands-on and practical where possible.

Possible Career Destinations:

This course aims to broaden students’ understanding of different careers across a broad range of sectors. Students learn and enhance a broad range of skills practically which will prove beneficial for their future endeavours.
