Learning Support Department

The Learning Support Department is led by the SENCO, Mrs Kyrine Townley.  Should you wish to contact Mrs Townley, please complete the ‘Contact Us’ form on the website.

The Department aims to provide support for those with a long term learning difficulties or disabilities that affects their learning, plus supports those that are perhaps experiencing difficulty in their current learning.

Each year, links are made with our feeder primary schools to ensure pupil’s needs are known before they start their educational careers at KKS. This link helps us to plan interventions and support for the following year.

The interventions we offer varies each year, depending on needs and demand. Our core interventions generally include:

1:1 Reading for Year 7 and 8 pupils.

Reading Club for Year 7 pupils, where pupils are paired with a Year 12 pupil to help encourage and develop reading skills.

Social Use of Language for Year 7 pupils who may need help with friendships and the ‘unwritten social rules.’

Learning through Experience. This course currently includes the John Muir Award and Cumbria Fire Fighters Certificate.

We also have some IT based learning which includes:

Indirect Dyslexia Learning, a resource aimed to help spelling, memory, reading and comprehension skills. This can be accessed from school and home and is available to all year groups.

If you wish to find out more about the Department please read the SEN Information Report located in the Policies  section or contact Mrs K. Townley for any specific questions or information.
