Bursary Info

The Government has set aside some money for schools, colleges, training providers and local authorities to allocate to young people who need financial support to stay on in further education or training. This is called the 16-19 Bursary Fund.

It is designed to help support those young people to continue in education or training post-16 and can be used to pay for things such as:  clothing, books and other equipment for your course, transport and lunch on study/training days.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Students who are in care, leaving care or receiving Income Support or Universal Credit 
  • Disabled young people in receipt of both Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and
  • Disability Living Allowance (or Personal Independence Payment).
  • Students who have been on probation
  • Students who are lone parents
  • Students who are asylum seekers or refugees
  • Students with physical or other disabilities, medical conditions and/or learning difficulties
  • Students who are in receipt of Free School Meals or who have parents on low income
