Sixth Form Curriculum

Kirkbie Kendal School offers over 20 A level and vocational courses. We will tailor an individual programme of study to suit your personal requirements.  Most courses offered are traditional academic A levels, taught over two years.  Vocational courses are offered in Sport, Health & Social Care, Music and Applied Science.

Academic Pathway

Three or more A levels plus Sixth Form Games, Enrichment and/or EPQ. Students entering the Sixth Form are expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSE grades at 5 or above (including English and Mathematics).  In addition, students are normally required to have achieved at least a grade 6 or above at GCSE in their chosen A level subject.

Combined Pathway

Cambridge Technicals/BTECs and/or A levels, plus Enrichment, Sixth Form Games and Work Experience.

Cambridge Technicals/BTECs:  these ae A level equivalents with a vocational focus, studied over two years and assessed by portfolio.  They carry the UCAS points of a standard A level.

Students will be assessed on an individual basis. Students are expected to have 5 GCSE grades at 5 or above (including English and Mathematics at grade 4). Students who are accepted without a 4 in Mathematics and English will be expected to retake these GCSEs during Year 12.

The Sixth Form curriculum offers a wide range of academic courses and students appreciate the range of options.

Ofsted

Applicants for any Pathway are expected to successfully complete a short interview assessing their attitude, aptitude for the proposed course of study and their career interests. Every student’s application is assessed on an individual basis.
